S.D. Abramowitz - Architects operates a General Practice engaging in a variety of building design and site planning projects. We work for home owners, landlords, real estate management, and real estate developers in both the private and public sectors.
The firm engages in public bid projects for local Governments and Public Housing Authorities, which accounts for 70% to 80% of firm's billings. The balance of the firm's billings can be attributed to all other types of use group projects in the private for profit and non-profit sectors, including; single and multi-family housing; commercial office and retail; religious; warehouse, distribution, and storage facilities; manufacturing; and an assortment of accessory sub-use group facilities.
The firm basically operates as a sole proprietorship, but also forms Associations with other Architects and Engineers from time to time for special projects where the combined financial and staffing capabilities are needed for larger projects. As a sole proprietorship, the firm has often been engaged in several large projects and is capable of maintaining a small professional staff to assist in production of work product for any given project type.
The methodology of the firm is rooted in a traditional approach to the practice of Architecture, in that at the early stages of design, particularly during program development and conceptualization, much of the drawing work product is developed manually, by hand, and only converted to CAD drawings after a firm understanding of the Project's program needs and spatial requirements have been development to the client's satisfaction.
A majority of our CAD work is outsourced to a small by very experienced and very productive CAD drafting service. They are always provided with preliminary drawings prepared by Architects of the firm who regular review and supervise CAD production of those drawings. We find this approach far more efficient and effective, in that drawing documents are always produced with current versions of Auto CAD by highly experienced and specialized staff, and that CAD staffing is utilized only for this purpose and only engaged when needed.
All other aspects of the practice are produced in-house. Specifications, whether on note form placed on the drawings or in book form for public bid projects are always written in house and by our specification writer with over 30 years experience.
